Comparative Evaluation of User Performance for Modeling Tasks in Non-immersive and Immersive Virtual Environments

چکیده
This work deals with modeling in immersive virtual environments. We present MuscleAssemblyLab (MAL), a tool to create musculo-skeletal layers for virtual humanoids. With modular interaction metaphors it supports various inputand output-devices ranging from classical desktop systems to virtual reality hardware. This enabled us to conduct a comparative user study between non-immersive and immersive virtual environments in order to study user performance. As a result of our study, we could show that modeling in immersive virtual environments is significantly faster without loss of precision. Further observations led to enhancements of our interaction techniques used within MAL.

An Evaluation of Immersive Virtual Reality Systems for Design Reviews
ABSTRACT: With the growth of building information modeling (BIM) approaches to facility design, architectural, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry has been shifting to the use of three-dimensional (3D) virtual facility mockups during design. Studies have shown that 3D models when displayed in an immersive projection display environment allow users to interact with the virtual environme...

We designed an interactive 3D user interface system to perform object modeling in virtual environments. Expanding on existing 3D user interface techniques, we integrate low-cost human gesture recognition that endows the user with powerful abilities to perform complex virtual object modeling tasks in an immersive game setting. Much research has been done to explore the possibilities of developin...
متن کاملShape Modeling with Sketched Feature Lines in Immersive 3D Environments
Immersive 3D environments are used in virtual product creation to support designers during the design process. Various approaches exist that focus on immersive sketching techniques, as sketching is a prominent technique in the early phases of product design. This thesis addresses the question whether automatic shape creation from sketched input strokes in an immersive 3D environment supports th...
